Frankland Estate is delighted to host this celebration of the quality and diversity of the world’s finest riesling wines – a not-to-be-missed event for all wine lovers.
Facilitated by Jancis Robinson MW, world-renowned wine commentator, and Berlin-based international riesling authority Stuart Pigott, the themed masterclasses, tastings and lunches over the two days offer a rare opportunity to discover all the nuances of the Riesling grape. Dry, off-dry and sweet style from new and old world regions will be examined - from as far afield as the Finger Lakes USA, Slovenia, South Africa, Alsace and Germany, to the riesling producing regions within Australia. A perfectly aged 70 year old Riesling will also be one of many aged wines on show at the ‘Riesling Through the Ages’ event.
The celebration will culminate in a Grand Riesling Dinner at Glass Brasserie at the Sydney Hilton.

In addition to the event, the winner of this competition will receive 12 bottles of Frankland Estate’s new release single vineyard 2011 Rieslings – The Isolation Ridge, Poison Hill and Netley Road. Fruit for all three of these wines is sourced from vineyards located within 15 kilometres of each other and sharing the macroclimatic advantages that prompted Professor Harold Olmo to first identify the Frankland River region as potentially the best in Western Australia for premium grape production. As such they benefit from the moderate ripening temperatures and cool nights in the lead up to harvest that is reflected in the bracing acidity for which the region’s rieslings are renowned.
Each single vineyard riesling receives similar treatment in the winery but despite having so much in common they demonstrate the remarkable diversity of flavour and style within the riesling spectrum. They offer three fascinating insights into the 2011 vintage that, as a result of record low winter rains in Frankland River and dry, warm conditions throughout the growing season, produced riesling wines characterised by vibrant fruit characters and firm, refreshing acidity.
