John Eason and wife Janene Ridley began the long, slow (and at times very painful) business of establishing their vineyard in 1992, just north of Mt Terrible – hence the choice of name. The original plantings were trials, DIY home winemaking likewise, aided by an extensive library of how-to books. In 2001 they found the courage to plant 2 ha of pinot noir (MV6, 115, 114 and 777 clones) on a gently sloping, north-facing river terrace adjacent to the Jamieson River. The DIY trials persuaded John Eason to have the first commercial vintage in 2006 contract- made by Jane Donat, then Delatite winemaker. Construction has begun on an underground fireproof wine cellar, a cellar door to be built above. The Central Victoria Zone is shown as the region, as the vineyard is 5 km outside the boundary of the Upper Goulburn region.
