James' Review

The Pepper Tree winery is part of a complex that also contains The Convent guest house and Roberts Restaurant. In 2002 it was acquired by a company controlled by Dr John Davis, who owns 50% of Briar Ridge. The appointment of Jim Chatto as chief winemaker in 2007 brought the expertise of the best young wine judge on the Australian wine show circuit, with winemaking talents to match, and should bring further improvement (vintage conditions accepted). It sources the majority of its Hunter Valley fruit from its Tallavera Grove vineyard at Mt View, but also has premium vineyards at Orange, Coonawarra and Wrattonbully, which provide its Grand Reserve and Reserve (single-region) wines. Self-evidently, the wines are of exceptional value for money. Exports to the US, Canada, Singapore, China and NZ.
