James' Review

The Tulloch brand continues to build success on success. Its primary grape source is estate vines owned by part shareholder Inglewood Vineyard in the Upper Hunter Valley. It also owns the JYT Vineyard established by Jay Tulloch in the mid-1980s at the foot of the Brokenback Range in the heart of Pokolbin. The third source is contract-grown fruit from other growers in the Hunter Valley and further afield. Skilled winemaking by First Creek Winemaking Services has put the icing on the winemaking cake, and Christina Tulloch is a live-wire marketer. Exports to Belgium, Canada, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan and China.

About this winery

The Tulloch story began in 1895 when John Younie Tulloch accepted an unusual settlement of a debt, a 43 acre property at Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley. Today, still located in Pokolbin’s viticultural heartland, the Tulloch names lives on as a founding wine producer of the Hunter region, continuing to strive for excellence in the production of premium Hunter wines. Tulloch’s reputation is built upon quality and the experience required to produce wine styles for all generations. The Tulloch range spans a broad varietal base and completes a portfolio produced from premium quality grapes, made in an approachable style. The range consists of over 20 wines, including the famous Tulloch Verdelho and the resurrected Pokolbin Dry Red Shiraz. A range of ‘Limited Release’ wines, made only in exceptional vintages from a select parcel of fruit, include the multi-award winning Julia Semillon, E.M. Chardonnay and the flagship Hector Shiraz. An exclusive ‘Cellar Door Only’ range of wines made in small quantities, only available at the cellar door, offers an exciting line up of emerging varietals like Viognier, Marsanne and Petit Verdot. The Tulloch Cellar Door was the recipient of the inaugural 2007 Hunter Valley Wine Industry Awards, ‘Cellar Door of the Year’.
