Our Review
Arguably the most successful of all Yarra Valley wineries, not only in terms of the sheer volume of production but also the quality of its wines. It is run by the husband-and-wife team of Leanne De Bortoli and Steve Webber, but owned by the De Bortoli family. The first of the 4th generation members, Kate Webber, joined the winemaking team in ’20 after completing vintages in Burgundy and the Napa Valley. The wines are released in 3 quality (and price) groups: at the top Single Vineyard, then Estate Vineyard and then La Boheme. Small-volume labels increase the offer with Melba, Riorret, and Vinouque, enabling trials (at the commercial level) of new varieties and interesting blends. The BellaRiva Italian varietal wines are sourced from the King Valley, and Windy Peak from Victorian regions including the Yarra, King Valley and Heathcote. The PHI wines are made from the 17.5ha renowned Lusatia Park Vineyard, purchased in November ’15, and from Heathcote. Rutherglen Estates was added to the De Bortoli portfolio in 2019. -JAMES HALLIDAY

Wines on offer for tastings, and for sale, include our acclaimed Yarra Valley and Gulf Station ranges. Also available is a small selection of award-winning wines from our Bilbul winery including Noble One and premium fortified wines.
Our cellar door provides a welcoming environment with historic family photos and old winery equipment.
We also have our own cheese maturation room where we mature Australian and overseas cheese in a wonderful cave-like environment.

The name Locale (Low-car-leh) reflects not only the De Bortoli family's Italian heritage but also the restaurant's philosophy of sourcing the best local, seasonal and organic produce. Archival pictures of the De Bortoli family, framed and hung on the wall, add a sense of history to the place. Add a wine list that highlights De Bortoli's award-winning Yarra Valley wines alongside some of the best that the rest of the country and the world have to offer and you have a restaurant that truly is devoted to the good tastes that spring from the local earth and how those flavours are unique to and representative of this particular part of the world.
