The Armchair Critic in question is Nicholas Crampton, who held a senior marketing role with what was to become Treasury Wine Estates before accepting a redundancy package in 2008. A lot has happened in the intervening three years, and he now works (on a long, loose chain) for McWilliam’s. Part of his activities involve the production of the Armchair Critic wines at two price points; in the upper echelon there are two site-specific wines made from Tumbarumba chardonnay and Heathcote shiraz, the second tier at attractively low prices are also regionally based with the Under & Over soubriquet for Tumbarumba Chardonnay, King Valley Pinot Gris and Heathcote Shiraz.
