NZ-born Frewin Ries and Barossa-born Candice Helbig, life and business partners, crammed multiple wine lives into a relatively short period, before giving up secure jobs and establishing CRFT in '12. Frewin’s CV includes Cloudy Bay and the iconic Sonoma pinot noir producer Williams Selyem, amongst others. Candice is a 6th-generation Barossan. She trained as a lab technician before moving to winemaking at Hardys, gaining her degree in oenology and viticulture from CSU and on to Boar’s Rock and Mollydooker. The core focus is on small-batch, single-vineyard Adelaide Hills pinot noir, chardonnay and grüner veltliner. The Arranmore vineyard was purchased in '16, gaining organic certification in '19, and wines are made with a minimal-intervention approach. -JAMES HALLIDAY

The atmosphere is relaxed at CRFT's Tasting Room, set within a converted 1900s shearing shed and stables. Pull up a pew at the sunny terrace bar overlooking the beautiful NASAA Certified Organic Arranmore Vineyard, or plonk yourself beside the roaring stone fireplace on cool days. CRFT offers wine flights, wines by the glass or bottle, and takeaway bottle sales. Complimentary olives are served with each wine flight and local cheese and produce grazing plates are also available. Closed most Mondays, but open some public holiday Mondays — check CRFT's social media for details.
