Ochota Barrels

Taras Ochota has been a talisman for a new generation of Australian winemakers, creating with wife Amber an exciting portfolio of wines from small, beloved Adelaide Hills blocks as well as neighbouring districts such as McLaren Vale. After completing his oenology degree at Adelaide University he followed a varied path making wines for many of Australia’s top producers as well as a consultant winemaker in Sweden and Italy over 20 years, with Amber in a range of technical and marketing roles beside him. They set up Ochota Barrels in 2008 and garnered much more than a cult following. Tragically, Taras died in October 2020. The 2021 vintage was managed by Amber, with assistance of Taras’s dad Yari and Louis Schofield, as well as long-time winemaking mentor Peter Leske. Exports to the UK, the US, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Ukraine, Hong Kong, NZ, the Netherlands, Singapore, Germany and Japan. -TONY LOVE
