Yes, they really are Beer brothers, and, yes, they grow grapes and make wine, not beer. The brothers in question (brothers of famed chef and author Maggie Beer) are Colin and Bruce, who became a partner in the grapegrowing business in 1987. Ten years later they decided to venture into winemaking, using the team at Yalumba (to whom they sell the lion’s share of the grape production); after selling some of the 40-year-old Barossa shiraz to Rockford for inclusion in the Basket Press Red, they persuaded Dave Powell (Torbreck) to make Old Vine Barossa Shiraz.
