James' Review

Rick Burge and Burge Family Winemakers (not to be confused with Grant Burge, although the families are related) has established itself as an icon producer of exceptionally rich, lush and concentrated Barossa red wines. 2008 marked 80 years of continuous winemaking by three generations of the family, sandwiched between the much-reduced yields from ’07 and ’09; in these years some of the signature wines were not made. Exports to Canada, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan.

About this winery

Established in 1928 by Percival Burge, the family firm is today managed by his grandson Rick, who in his 25 years at the helm, has developed an enviable reputation for the premium table wines from the firm's single-vineyard DRAYCOTT and OLIVE HILL blocks. Also available are the rich, mellow "Wilsford" fortifieds, released from old, maturing stocks that are judiciously freshened and bottled using a modified solera method.
All wines are estate grown, without the use of fungicides, weedicides, insecticides or artificial fertilizers.
