Jeffrey Grosset has assumed the unchallenged mantle of Australias foremost Riesling maker in the wake of John Vickery stepping back to a consultancy role for Richmond Grove. Grossets pre-eminence in Riesling making is recognised both domestically and internationally; however, he merits equal recognition for the other wines in his portfolio: Semillon Sauvignon Blanc from Clare Valley/Adelaide Hills, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Adelaide Hills; and Gaia, a Bordeaux blend from the Clare Valley. These are all benchmarks. His quietly spoken manner conceals a steely will. Trial plantings (2ha) of fiano, aglianico, nero dAvola and petit verdot (plus one or two more varieties planned) suggest some new wines may be gestating. Exports to all major markets.
