Stefano DiGiorgio emigrated from Abruzzi, Italy, in 1952. Over the years, he and his family gradually expanded their holdings at Lucindale. In 1989 he began planting cabernet sauvignon (100 ha), chardonnay (10 ha), merlot (9 ha), shiraz (6 ha) and pinot noir (2 ha). In 2002 the family purchased the historic Rouge Homme winery, capable of crushing 10 000 tonnes of grapes, and its surrounding 13.5 ha of vines, from Southcorp. Since that time the Coonawarra plantings have been increased to almost 230 ha, the lion’s share to cabernet sauvignon. The enterprise is offering full winemaking services to vignerons in the Limestone Coast Zone. DiGiorgio also provides contract winemaking services for the Limestone Coast Zone. Exports to all major markets.
