Koonara is a sister, or, more appropriately, a brother company to Reschke Wines. The latter is run by Burke Reschke, Koonara by his brother Dru. Both are sons of Trevor Reschke, who planted the first vines on the Koonara property in 1988. The initial planting was of cabernet sauvignon, followed by shiraz in 1993 and additional cabernet sauvignon in ’98. Peter Douglas, formerly Wynns’ chief winemaker before moving overseas for some years, has returned to the district and is consultant winemaker. The Bay of Apostles range was released in 2008, with four of the five wines under the label sourced from Vic. A Bay of Apostles cellar door has been opened in the main street of Apollo Bay on the Great Ocean Road. In 2010–11 organic management of the vineyard was initiated. Exports to Malaysia, Singapore and China.
