The Ciccocioppo family migrated from central Italy in the 1950s; as is so often the case, wine was in their veins. In 2001 second-generation John Ciccocioppo and wife Connie purchased a grazing property at Springton, and began the planting of shiraz and riesling. Each year they increased the shiraz and riesling blocks, but also added smaller amounts of cabernet sauvignon, grenache and a smaller amount still of montepulciano. As the plantings got underway John undertook a winemaking course at Regency Park TAFE, a year later undertaking a chemical analysis course. Prior to the 2005 vintage, a small winery was erected onsite, and it is here that the Shiraz, Riesling and Cabernet Grenache Montepulciano are made. The wines are available for tasting at the Barossa Small Winemakers Centre at Chateau Tanunda. Good label design and packaging.
