Inkwell

Inkwell was born in ’03 when Dudley Brown moved to Australia from California and bought a rundown vineyard on the serendipitously named California Road. He inherited 5ha of neglected shiraz, and planted an additional 7ha to viognier (2.5ha), primitivo (2.5ha) and heritage shiraz clones (2ha). The 5-year restoration of the old vines and establishment of the new reads like the ultimate handbook for aspiring vignerons. Dr. Irina Santiago-Brown has since joined Dudley at Inkwell as chief winemaker, viticulturist and life partner; she is an advocate for sustainable viticulture, with the world’s first PhD in the subject. -JAMES HALLIDAY
