James' Review

David Paxton is of one Australia's most successful and respected viticulturists, with a career spanning more than 30 years. He started his successful premium grower business in 1979 and has been involved with planting and managing some of the most prestigious vineyards in McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley,Yarra Valley, Margaret River and Adelaide Hills for top global wineries. There are six vineyards in the family holdings in McLaren Vale: Thomas Block (25ha), Jones Block (22ha), Quandong Farm (18ha), Landcross Farm (2ha), Maslin (3ha) and 19th (12.5ha). All are certified organic and biodynamic, making Paxton one of the largest biodynamic producers in Australia. The vineyards have some of the region's oldest vines, including the 125-year-old EJ shiraz. His principal focus is on his own operations in McLaren Vale with Paxton Wines, established in '98 as a premium Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet producer. Winemaker Richard Freebairn joined Paxton Wines as head winemaker in 2014, with the '15 vintage being his first. The cellar door sits on Landcross Farm, a historic 1860s sheep farm in the original village consisting of limestone houses and shearing shed. Exports to the UK, the US, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Russia, Finland, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.
