Discover the Alpine Valleys wine region with James Halliday's Wine Atlas of Australia

If the name of the region is not sufficiently evocative, then Mount Beauty (snow-clad in winter) and Bright should tell you how spectacularly beautiful the region is, nestled in the northern foothills of the Victorian Alps.
It consists of four river basins or valleys, created by the Ovens, Buffalo, Buckland and Kiewa rivers, which may see the creation of subregions in due course, but it is the altitude which is the prime influence in shaping climate. Thus any subregion would not necessarily represent the boundaries of a single valley.
