Richard and Alice Tallis have 13 ha of shiraz,5 ha of cabernet sauvignon,2 ha each of viognier and riesling, and a small planting of sangiovese and merlot. While most of the grapes are sold, they have embarked on winemaking with the aid of Gary Baldwin, and have had considerable success. The philosophy of their winemaking and viticulture is minimal intervention to create a low-input and sustainable system; use of environmentally harmful sprays is minimised. The searing heat in January 2009 resulted in the destruction of 80% of the crop, and the hand- picking and selection of the remainder. It was a scenario repeated in various parts of South Eastern Australia, as far south as the Yarra Valley. Exports to Fiji and China.
