Bob and Joy Downing purchased 24 ha of undulating land in 1994, and have established a dry-grown vineyard planted to shiraz (6.5 ha), cabernet sauvignon (2.5 ha) and merlot (0.5 ha). At any one time, a number of vintages of each wine are available for sale. Exports to Canada, Singapore and China.
Author: James Halliday
The vineyard was planted in 1995, with the first estate bottling being the 1999 vintage. The vineyard is not irrigated and hence yields at less than 1 tonne to the acre, producing very intense fruit flavours and colors. All the wines are matured in up to 50% new oak barriques, predominantly French, for between 19 and 24 months prior to bottling, and then aged in bottle for a further 2 years prior to release in October each year.
Specialising in super premium Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a very limited production of Merlot.
