Unlike the Great Southern region, Margaret River does have a nineteenth-century winemaking heritage, albeit on a small scale. The grandfather of the late Dr Kevin Cullen (founder of Cullen Wines) established a vineyard at Bunbury in 1890. Ephraim Clarke continued to grow and make wine until his death in 1921; the vineyard was ultimately swallowed up in Bunbury’s urban sprawl.
