Margaret River

The 2000 Sydney Olympics brought Luigi and Anita Anderle to Australia for the first time. They took the opportunity to see more of Australia, and fell in love with the Margaret River. As a result, son Gianfranco and wife Francesca flew to WA to check out the region. Events moved quickly: they returned to Italy, sold all of their assets, and returned to the Margaret River to purchase a 30-ha property at Wilyabrup, moving permanently to the region with their children. Gianfranco’s parents followed a couple of years later. Gianfranco is a qualified oenologist, with an Honours degree from Conegliano, the oldest wine school in Europe, and already had 22 years of winemaking experience when he arrived in Australia. Looking for his own niche in the wine market, he makes the wines using the methods he learnt in Italy. The vineyard plantings are a mix of Margaret River staples (5.5 ha of sauvignon blanc and semillon, and 3.3 ha of cabernet sauvignon and merlot), the Italian connection cemented with further plantings of sangiovese, nebbiolo, malbec, vermentino and pinot grigio.
