Third-generation farmers Pam and John Allen returned from a short break running small businesses in Adelaide and Perth to purchase Silkwood in 1998. The vineyard is patrolled by a large flock of guinea fowl, eliminating most insect pests and reducing the use of chemicals. Under new ownership (2004), a modern winery was built in time for the ’06 vintage, and in ’05 Phillips Estate was purchased, lifting estate vineyard holdings to 23.5 ha. Plantings include shiraz (5.4 ha), cabernet sauvignon (4.3 ha), merlot (3.5 ha), sauvignon blanc (2.8 ha), chardonnay (2.5 ha), pinot noir, riesling (2 ha each) and zinfandel (1 ha). The new cellar door overlooks a large lake on the property.
