Larry Cherubino has had a particularly distinguished winemaking career, first at Hardys Tintara, then Houghton, and thereafter as consultant/Flying Winemaker in Australia, NZ, South Africa, the US and Italy. In 2005 he started Larry Cherubino Wines and has developed three ranges: at the top is Cherubino (Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon); next The Yard, five single vineyard wines from WA; and at the bottom the Ad Hoc label, all single-region wines. The range and quality of his wines is extraordinary, the prices irresistible. The runaway success of the business (owned by Larry and wife Edwina) has seen the accumulation of 120ha of vineyards, the appointment of an additional winemaker, and Larrys own appointment as Director of Winemaking at Robert Oatley Vineyards. The delphic one-liners on the back labels are a further challenge. All that said,he might well have repeated his 2011 selection as Winery of the Year if my self-imposed rule of only one such award did not preclude it. Exports to the UK, the US, Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, China and NZ.
