Where can I buy a copy of the James Halliday Wine Companion guide?

When is the James Halliday Wine Companion guide published?

The Australian Wine Companion book is published in August each year. Tasting notes and other information contained in the book are also uploaded to the website at the same time.


How much is an individual membership to the Halliday Wine Companion website?

Please refer to our Become a Member page for a selection of individual memberships available for purchase online. Winery memberships (packages designed especially for Australian wineries) are also available. For further information please email info@winecompanion.com.au. You must be logged in to view tasting notes.


Why can't I see the tasting notes and ratings on the website?

Only members have unlimited access to all of James Halliday's tasting notes, as well as wine and winery ratings. Individual yearly memberships are available from AU$69 including GST.



What do the wine ratings mean?

How long will it take for my first issue of the Halliday Wine Companion magazine to arrive?

Wine Companion Magazine is published bimonthly and it may take up to two months to receive your first issue. This can vary, depending on when you sign up. Please keep this in mind when purchasing as a gift.


I am moving house. How do I ensure my magazine subscription is sent to the right address?

All magazine subscriptions are managed by Magshop. Please call them on 136 116 or email them at magshop@magshop.com.au

Please note that changing your address on your Halliday Wine Companion membership profile will not update your address with Magshop.


How often is the Halliday Wine Companion magazine published?

Halliday Wine Companion Magazine is bi-monthly – we publish six issues per year.


How long will it take for my James Halliday Wine Companion book to arrive?

You can expect to receive your Wine Companion book within 7-10 working days. It will arrive via TOLL couriers, who will leave a call card if you're not home to sign for the package.


I don’t live in Australia, can I still buy a membership with a Halliday Wine Companion magazine and book?

Due to high costs for international delivery, the Wine Companion book and/or magazine are only available to Australian Residents. This includes promotional book/magazine offers.

If you have a friend or family member living in Australia who is willing to forward it to your international address, please contact us at info@winecompanion.com.au and we can organise delivery to their Australian mailing address.


I was previously a member and I’m trying to sign up again, but it says my username or email already exists. What should I do?

This usually occurs when you have let your account expire. Please log in with your previous username and password, and it will prompt you to renew.


I had to exit my membership signup halfway through. Can I resume?

You can sign in using the username and password you entered last time, and the signup process will resume from where you left.


How can I send my wines to James to be tasted and reviewed?

How can I request that my winery event be included in the events listing for www.WineCompanion.com.au?

Please refer to the Contact Us page for guidelines on submitting media releases and events. Suitability is at the discretion of the Wine Companion team.


I have a promotional code entitling me to a discount or free product. How do I use it?

During payment enter the code into the box titled ‘Promotional Code’ and click ‘Validate’. A message will appear in green text below the box confirming the code is valid. This is the first step in the payment process – make sure you have entered it before confirming payment.

Promotional codes are case-sensitive and have expiry dates. Please check these if your code is said to be invalid.


I forgot to enter my promotional code at the checkout, can I still get the discount?

No. Unfortunately we are unable to apply a discount or promotion once the payment has been processed.


How do I access Halliday Wine Companion on my mobile phone?

Visit the Wine Companion Mobile page for details on how to use Wine Companion on your smartphone.


I renewed my membership last week, but have just received an email advertising a free book promotion beginning today. Can I still receive the free book?

Unfortunately you must purchase within the promotional period to be eligible. We run promotions throughout the year in the hope that during the life of your membership you will have the chance to claim at least one offer, however we cannot guarantee this.
