General questions

How do I log in to my account? 

You can log in to your Halliday Wine Companion account by clicking on 'Login' in the top right hand corner of the website. 

If you are a current/previous member and it is your first time logging into the new website, you will be required to reset your password as a security measure.

To reset your password, click on 'Login' and then 'Don't remember you password?'. Enter the email address associated with your account and a password reset email will be sent to this email address. 

When you receive the email, confirm your password change by clicking on 'click here'. You can then set your new password and access the website. 

If you still cannot log in, it may be a browser issue. Try clearing the cache on your browser and attempting the log in again. 


How do I clear my browser's cache?

How do I search the website?

What do the wine ratings mean?

For full information about wine ratings, how they are applied and what they mean please click here.


Why can't I see the tasting notes and ratings on the website?

Only members have unlimited access to all of James Halliday's tasting notes, as well as wine and winery ratings. You can view the membership options here.

 

How much is an individual membership to the Halliday Wine Companion website?

Please refer to our Become A Member page for a selection of individual memberships available for purchase online. 


I have a promotional code entitling me to a discount or free product. How do I use it?

After choosing your membership option and entering your email and password, click on 'Apply coupon'. Enter your code in this box click the arrow to attach the code to your purchase. A message will appear in green text below the box confirming the code is valid. You can then click 'proceed to checkout' and complete payment.


Why is my promotional code saying 'Invalid Coupon Code'?

Promotional codes are case-sensitive, have expiry dates and may be specific to certain membership options. Please check these if your code is said to be invalid.

I forgot to enter my promotional code at the checkout, can I still get the discount?

No. Unfortunately we are unable to apply a discount or promotion once the payment has been processed.


When is the James Halliday Wine Companion guide published? 

The Australian Wine Companion book is published in August each year. Tasting notes and other information contained in the book are also uploaded to the website at the same time.


How often is the Halliday Wine Companion magazine published?

Halliday Wine Companion Magazine is bi-monthly – we publish six issues per year.


I don’t live in Australia, can I still buy a membership with a Halliday Wine Companion magazine and guide?

The Wine Companion book and/or magazine are only available to Australian Residents. This includes promotional book/magazine offers.

If you have a friend or family member living in Australia who is willing to forward it to your international address, please contact us at info@winecompanion.com.au and we can organise delivery to their Australian mailing address.

Alternatively, you can purchase a monthly membership as this option does not include the magazine or guide. You can view membership options here. 


Can my business advertise on the website?

How do I log in to my account?

I forgot my password. What should I do?

To reset your password, click on 'Login' and then 'Don't remember you password?'. Enter the email address associated with your account and a password reset email will be sent to this email address. 

When you receive the email, confirm your password change by clicking on 'click here'. You can then set your new password and access the website.

I am already a member but my password is not being recognised. What should I do? 

If you were a member of Halliday Wine Companion on the previous version of the website, you will need to set a new password the first time you attempt to log in to the new version of the website. This is a security measure and will only need to be done the first time you log in. 

To reset your password, click on 'Login' and then 'Don't remember you password?'. Enter the email address associated with your account and a password reset email will be sent to this email address.

I was previously a member and I’m trying to sign up again, but it says my username or email already exists. What should I do?

This usually occurs when you have let your account expire. Please log in with your previous username and password, and it will prompt you to renew.


How long will it take for my first issue of the Halliday Wine Companion magazine to arrive?

Halliday Wine Companion Magazine is published bimonthly and it may take up to two months to receive your first issue. This can vary, depending on when you sign up. 


How long will it take for my James Halliday Wine Companion book to arrive?

You can expect to receive your Wine Companion book within 7-10 working days.

It will arrive via TOLL couriers, who will leave a call card if you're not home to sign for the package.

If you purchased the Vintage Pack pre-July 15th, your guide will be delivered on the day of release (Aug 2nd). Any Vintage Pack memberships bought after this date will not be guaranteed delivery of the guide on it's release date. 


How do I access the digital version of the Halliday Wine Companion magazine?

I am moving house. How do I ensure my magazine subscription is sent to the right address?

All magazine subscriptions are managed by Magshop. Please call them on 136 116 or email them at magshop@magshop.com.au

Please note that changing your address on your Halliday Wine Companion membership profile will not update your address with Magshop.

Virtual Cellar


Where can I find my virtual cellar?

The Halliday Virtual Cellar is available for members only. You’ll need to login to your account and the “virtual cellar” tab will appear at the top right of the page, to the left of your name.

If you have any problems logging in please refer to our FAQs.

How do I export my list of wines to Excel?

This feature has been upgraded with the new website and will be available for members within the next few weeks.

How do I search my virtual cellar?

Click on the “My Wines” tab. 


You now have a variety of filters to set to narrow down on your favourite wines in your Virtual Cellar. Filters include your cellar location, rating, vintage, variety and region.

Using the sliders will help you to select a range to apply your search to, such as on price or vintage.



We will continue to optimise the search experience within your Virtual Cellar, so please leave feedback via the form on site to let us know what feature you’re looking for most.

How do I remove wines?

To remove a wine:
  1. Select ‘My Wines’ from the menu
  2. Use the filters to find the wine you wish to remove
  3. Click on that wine
  4. At the top right of the screen, there are 4 options you can select to update this wine, select REMOVE
  5. Enter the number of bottles to be removed, cellar location and if you like, a comment.
  6. Select ‘Remove’

You now have removed bottles from your Virtual Cellar.

How do I edit an existing entry?

To edit a wine:

Select ‘My Wines’ from the menu
  1. Use the filters to find the wine you wish to remove
  2. Click on that wine
  3. At the top right of the screen, there are 4 options you can select to update this wine:
  4. Add more
  5. Drink it
  6. Move it
  7. Remove
  8. Select any of these to make your adjustments and follow the instructions to complete the action.

How do I find the tasting notes I’ve added myself? Ie non Halliday rated wines?


Your personally added wines are accessible to you via the ‘My Wines’ menu, and using the filter options to narrow down the specific wine you’re looking for. 

The more inputs into the filter, the more likely your desired wine will display toward the top of the results.

How do I find the “when to drink” time for the wines in my virtual cellar?


Locate an individual wine via the ‘My Wines’ menu, and click the wine you wish to see more information for. 

The ‘drink by’ information appears towards the top of the page under the ‘Details’ section.


How do I search via winery in my Virtual Cellar? 


We’ll look to bring this feature back very soon.

In the meantime, utilise the filters under ‘My Wines’ to narrow down your wine cellar.

How do I filter wines by ‘drink by’ date?

In the meantime, if you navigate to an individual wine from your cellar, the drink by date is displayed here.
