Tasting nigh on 10,000 wines for the annual Halliday Wine Companion guide, and whittling those down to a select few award winners, is no mean feat for 77-year-old James Halliday and his small team of expert reviewers.
Ahead of this year’s winners being announced, James shared the story of how he got into wine making and writing in conversation with Qantas epiQure’s Lisa Hudson – you can watch the rare video interview below.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in Melbourne, Lisa Hudson said: “At Qantas epiQure we share James Halliday’s commitment to quality in Australian wine and passion for sharing knowledge. It’s good to remember that when we celebrate good wines we’re really celebrating families, small businesses, farmers and the pure enjoyment that the wine industry brings to so many.” Frequent flyers can shop the winning wines at qantasepiqure.com.au.
James Halliday's 2012 autobiography, entitled A Life in Wine, is available from the Wine Companion bookshop.
