Our Review
Patrick Tocaciu (who died in 2013) was a district veteran, with prior careers at Heathfield Ridge Winery and Hollick Wines. Wrattonbully plantings (almost 55ha) cover all the major varieties, while in Coonawarra the low-yielding Home Block (cabernet sauvignon) is supplemented by a 2nd vineyard of 17.5ha of cabernet and smaller amounts of riesling and sauvignon blanc. Son Luke, with a degree in oenology from the University of Adelaide and vintage experience in Australia and the US, has taken over in the winery. -JAMES HALLIDAY
Specialities
All the hard vineyard work ensures that the fruit for our wines is full of flavour, allowing minimal winemaker intervention. Our wines display typical varietal characteristics of a cool climate region and are made using traditional winemaking techniques such as extended contact on skins, gentle maceration, slow fermentation and minimal fining.
Patrick has an exceptional reputation for producing Rieslings of merit, our 2009 winning Gold, Trophy & Best in Class in the Boutique Winemakers Awards whilst the 2010 took out the Gold, Trophy & Best White Wine in the Limestone Coast Wine show along with 4.5 stars and 2nd place in the 2011 Winestate Wine of the Year Awards!
Our full bodied red wines are matured in superior quality tightly grained French and American oak barrels, often for between 18 and 40 months. Delayed release to market ensures wine with a wonderful structure and smooth, fine tannin finish. Our premium Cabernets in particular will benefit from further cellaring.
