Roger Williams (who has lived on Kangaroo Island all his life) and wife Kate planted the first vines on their property in 1995, and after some trial and error, have now settled on shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. They personally do all the work in the vineyard, including pruning, spraying and - of course - picking. They also have an al fresco cafe/restaurant in Kingscote (Roger's Cafe), which seats 60 and is the cellar door sales outlet for the wines. The quality of the wines is impressive.


Springs Road runs east-west across the northern part of Kangaroo Island, South Australia. Springs Road vineyards were established in 1994 on a small sheep property about 7km west of Kingscote and are now owned and operated by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith from McLaren Vale’s Battle of Bosworth wines. Many of our winemaking friends have headed to Tasmania; we chose a smaller, closer island which we believe has huge potential. Wines are 100% estate grown and hand-made from the very low yielding vines which are now well over 20 years old. Vineyards have been managed organically since we took over in early 2016 and we are awaiting certification. The Springs Road wine label is adapted from Louis Freycinet’s 1808 map of Southern Australia, ‘Terre Napoléon’.
