Angove Family Winemakers

South Australia | South Australia

James' Review

Angove exemplifies the economies of scale achievable in the Riverland without compromising quality. Good technology provides wines that are never poor and sometimes exceed their theoretical station in life. The vast Nanya Vineyard has been redeveloped with changes in the varietal mix, row orientation and a partial move to organic growing. Angove's expansion into Padthaway (chardonnay), Watervale (riesling) and Coonawarra (cabernet sauvignon) via long-term contracts, and the purchase of the Warboys Vineyard (one of the oldest vineyards in McLaren Vale, planted in the 1930s, now certified organic and biodynamic) in 2008, have resulted in outstanding premium wines. A large cellar door and cafe on the Warboys Vineyard at the corner of Chalk Hill Rd/Olivers Road, McLaren Vale, is open 10-5 daily. Exports to all major markets.

Founded in 1886, it is also one of Australia’s most successful wine businesses – a fifth generation family company with a tradition of excellence and an eye for the future.

Angove wines include The Medhyk, Warboys, Family Crest, Alternatus, Vineyard Select, Long Row, Nine Vines and Organics, for sale in over 30 countries around the world.

The stunning Angove McLaren Vale Vineyards and Cellar Door and superb range of wines from this region builds upon the family’s remarkable history. Situated in the heart of the renowned McLaren Vale wine district, this destination is designed and positioned to take full advantage of its location, the cellar door is nestled in the family’s certified organic and biodynamic Warboys Vineyard on Chalk Hill Road.

Angove is committed to remaining privately owned and believes remaining in family hands enables the company to be master of its own destiny and remain true to its stated aims and is clearly focussed on building on over 125 years of winemaking excellence.
