Paringa Wines

South Australia | South Australia

Our Review

Not to be confused with the prestigious Paringa Estate of the Mornington Peninsula, this business nonetheless has blue blood in its wine veins. The Hickinbotham family has played a major role in the development of the wine industry in SA, Alan Robb Hickinbotham one of the people responsible for establishing the oenology course at Roseworthy Agricultural College (now part of the Adelaide Uni). He was a distinguished research scientist in his own right, and when Adelaide Uni constructed a new $3 million science laboratory, it was named the Hickinbotham Roseworthy Wine Science Laboratory. In 1971 Alan Hickinbotham and son David established the Clarendon Vineyard in the hills of the McLaren Vale region, closely followed by the establishment of the Paringa vineyard near Renmark in '74. Today the business is owned by David and Dena Hickinbotham, their son Alan Robb taking the christian names of his great-grandfather. Exports to most major markets. -JAMES HALLIDAY
