James' Review

Merite Wines was established in 2000 after Mike Kloak and Colleen Miller's protracted search for high quality viticultural land, with a particular focus on the production of merlot utilising recently released clones that hold the promise of producing wine of a quality not previously seen. However, it's not a case of all eggs in the same basket, for malbec, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz have also been planted. It was not until '13 that the first small amount of wine was made (most of the grapes were, and will continue to be, sold to other winemakers).

Producing cabernet, malbec, shiraz and merlot wines with a focus on utilising recently introduced clones.

The vineyard is managed with sensitivity to the different clones and varying soil profiles, producing A grade merlot from mature merlot vines, creating wines of a different style and taste than is normally expected of Australian merlot.

[pronounced mer-eat]
1. noteworthy 2. virtue 3. an advantage

Elsewhere in the vineyard are plantings of shiraz, cabernet and malbec which will be featured in small batch wines available to buy on-premise and directly through the winery's website (free shipping) under the RUCKUS and MERITE labels.

You may order wine directly from the winery, always with free shipping, to taste the difference these new clones can make to Australian merlot and malbec.
