Owner and winemaker Greer Carland grew up on the Laurel Bank family property, learning to prune vines at an early age. She completed her oenology degree at Adelaide University in 2000, and after a few years of international vintages in Chile France and the US, and a short stint in WA, she returned to Tasmania in 2004. For the next 12 years she worked with Julian Alcorso at Winemaking Tasmania, also making the Laurel Bank wines. In 2016 she left, to focus on making the family wines at Laurel Bank and start her own label. She intends to secure land and establish a vineyard for Quiet Mutiny with her viticulturist husband Paul Smart.
