Apthorpe Estate

New South Wales | Hunter Valley

Our Review

Samuel Apthorpe was given 14 years' imprisonment as a convict in Australia for stealing a few teaspoons. In the mid-1850s, after he had completed his sentence, he established a vineyard in the Hunter Valley at Bishops Bridge. His great-great-great-grandson Mark Apthorpe continued the tradition when he planted 1ha each of cabernet franc and chambourcin at nearby Lovedale. -JAMES HALLIDAY
