Yanmah Ridge

Peter and Sallyann Nicholas have established 26 ha of vineyards on elevated, north-facing slopes, with semillon, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinot noir, sangiovese, merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. The property was identified by Peter in 1986 as ‘the perfect location’ after a study of grapegrowing regions in WA. The project was the last requirement for Peter to complete his winemaking degree at Roseworthy Agricultural College. Their viticulture is environmentally friendly, with no residual herbicides or chemical pesticides. A winery was built in 2001, but the majority of the annual production is still sold (as grapes or wine) to other producers. Exports to the UK, Canada and Hong Kong. -JAMES HALLIDAY
