The Canberra District’s Four Winds Vineyard will host a bicycle short film night on February 25 as part of Donate Life Week.
Four Winds Vineyard’s business manager Sarah Collingwood said that organ donation was a cause close to her heart after losing her brother after a 15 month wait for an organ transplant.
“The important organ donation message is to ask and know your loved ones’ donation wishes,” she said. “The bike film night is the perfect chance to enjoy a night in the vineyard under the stars, catch up on some great bike short films and remind people about donating life.”
Australia is a world leader for successful transplant outcomes, yet has one of the lowest donation rates in the developed world according to the Government’s www.donatelife.gov.au website.
"The film night will include bike short films from around the world,” Sarah said. “They include a film Smile for Future about two BMX riders who toured Japan’s tsunami affected region entertaining kids in schools, Little Green Bike from the Toward Carfree Cities Conference and the central Australian project Deadly Treadlies that provided community bikes for Indigenous communities.”
This is the second year the vineyard has hosted the bike short film night, and expects another sell-out crowd this year. Donate Life Week will take place from 19-26 February 2012.
The evening will kick off with a pasta dinner before more than an hour of films shown on a large screen in the vineyard. The tickets are limited and include dinner. They can be purchased online for $22 at www.fourwindsvineyard.com.au.
