What I'm Drinking...

1995 McWilliams Mount Pleasant Old Paddock and Old Hill Shiraz

Publish Date: 14 Dec 2011

This comes from vines 75 and 115 years old when the wine was made. Unfortunately, it was a single bottle in my cellar, so there is no more. But since it would have comfortably outlived me, there's no regret, just amazement at the velvety richness of the wine. Indeed, it has some of the qualities of the great Hunter Valley shirazs made in the last 60 years, 1965 Lindemans Bin 3100 and Bin 3110. I do emphasise the word 'some' because that Lindemans duo will coast through another 50 years if recorked and well stored. Lamb shoulder (shoulder is the best part of the lamb) was the meat match.
