What I'm Drinking...

2004 Tahbilk Marsanne

Publish Date: 13 Dec 2011

Glowing green-gold colour is a great start, testament to the screwcap's magic preservation of all things good in the wine. The palate has crossed the bridge from its crisp, crunchy youth to the mouthfilling rounded flesh of semi-maturity. The honeysuckle/honey/citrus flavours are building, but with a few years to go yet before the wine enters a long plateau of full maturity, elements of buttered toast and nuts to make their appearance. That plateau will be sustained by the acidity at the core of a beautiful and (in Australia) unique wine. A wok-stirred fray of chicken, ginger, vegetables and (an imaginary) touch of chilli was the final touch. When cool-fermented and early-bottled, bypassing oak, this [marsanne?] is a beautiful wine.
