What I'm Drinking...

2009 La Pousse dOr Volvnay Premier Cru En Caillerets

Publish Date: 14 Dec 2011

Only recently shipped, and on arrival sent to my house in the Yarra Valley, and on (a semi-impulse) opened with an Asian spiced cryovac [xxx] dried noodles and a cabbage ragout.

Impossibly young, of course, but also giving a window into the reputation Volnay had 100 years ago for powerful long-lived pinot capable of leaving Premier Cru Cote de Nuits well behind. Mind you, vinocide, like fantacide, has lots of reasons to be appropriately dealt with by the courts, whether legal or of the Master Sommeliers. Whether drinking the remainder of the half bottle was a plead not guilty, or a confession of guilt is for others to decide. if guilty, my plea of mitigation is a promise not to transgress for another eight years.
