In August 2010 Brown Brothers purchased Tamar Ridge from Gunns Limited for $32.5 million. While Dr Andrew Pirie has retired from his former position of CEO and chief winemaker, he has been at pains to point out that the end of his five-year tenure happened to coincide with the acquisition. Doubtless Brown Brothers will take its time in establishing ongoing management and marketing strategies, but will seek to leverage the opportunities offered by such an important move. Tasmania is the one region of Australia with demand for grapes and wine exceeding supply. Moreover, Tamar Ridge has been very well managed during the seven years it was owned by Gunns. Exports to the UK, the US and other major markets.
