Helen Miles, who has a degree in science, and partner Greg Miles have planted 2.8 ha of shiraz, 1.2 ha of cabernet and 0.4 ha of merlot near Metcalfe, in the cooler southwest corner of Heathcote. The granitic soils and warm climate allow organic principles to be used successfully. The shiraz is dry-grown, while the cabernet sauvignon and merlot receive minimal irrigation. Still recovering from drought and frost.
