Orthopaedic surgeon Barry Elliott, as well as running the surgery unit at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital, has became involved with the Kyneton Hospital. He and his wife acquired the 24-ha property without any clear idea of what they might do with it; later his lifelong interest in wine steered him toward the idea of establishing a vineyard. He retained John Ellis as his consultant, and this led to the planting of pinot noir, and the first tiny make in 2000.
