Graham and Kelly Howard acquired the Whitfield Estate vineyard (planted in 1994) in 2005. The estate plantings are equally planted to chardonnay and shiraz, the majority of which is sold to West Cape Howe, who contract-make the remaining production for Whitfield Estate. Other varieties are also purchased from growers in the region. The Picnic in the Paddock café opened in 2008.

We purchased the Whitfield Estate property in 2005 which included a mature vineyard. Through trial and error we learnt how to maximise the flavours of the grapes. In 2007 we launched the butterfly logo and our wine was sold from the carport. Our claim to fame was the largest spittoon in Denmark—as the paddock was right next door! During this time the wine gained recognition in the wine show circuit and was awarded medals across Australia. This success is also thanks to Dave Cleary, Senior Winemaker who continues to work with us in making of the Whitfield Estate range of wines.
In 2008 our family-friendly “Picnic in the Paddock” café was opened and the “Picnic” series of wines was launched mid 2009.
We continue to evolve and work with nature and our customers to provide products and service that makes your time in Denmark memorable. Mac and Bud our friendly Bernese Mountain Dogs warmly welcome all guests to Whitfield Estate and Picnic in the Paddock.
