James' Review

Flametree, now owned solely by the Towner family (John, Liz and Rob), has had extraordinary success since its first vintage in 2007. The usual practice of planting a vineyard and then finding someone to make the wine was turned on its head: a state-of-the-art winery was built, and grape purchase agreements entered into with various growers in the region. Gold medal after gold medal, and trophy after trophy followed, topped by the winning of the Jimmy Watson Trophy with its first red wine, the 2007 Cabernet Merlot. If all this were not enough, Flametree has secured the services of former long-serving winemaker at Voyager Estate, Cliff Royle. Exports to the UK, Sweden, Fiji, Singapore,Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and China.

About this winery

Flametree Wines was catapulted into winemaking folklore after winning Australia’s most prestige’s wine award the Jimmy Watson Trophy with its first ever red wine, the 2007 Cabernet Merlot. Proving that this wasn’t just good luck the 2008 Cabernet Merlot was again a finalist in this year’s Jimmy Watson trophy taste off. James Halliday’s 2010 Wine Companion ranked Flametree Wines in his Top 10 New and Exciting wineries, giving great reviews across the complete range. Recent accolades include winning the trophy at the Margaret River Wine Show for the best Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, no mean feat given the quality and quantity of the wines entered.  Winemaker Cliff Royle and his winemaking team are dedicated to producing the very best premium wines  from the Margaret River region.

    Description:
Visit our Cellar Door to view an exhibition from a local swell and surf photographer, Tony Warrilow. A professional photographer for over twenty years Tony’s images achieve beauty not often presented as photographic finished art. His photographs allow the viewer aninsight into an environment that most of us have enjoyed at various times in our lives. Each image is a captured moment from our coastal regions and for each of us that lives within this “coastal culture” there will be an image that touches our emotions. “My photographic work based on out coastal landscape has been close to a full time activity for the last two years. It has surprised me in many ways. After a lifetime of surfing I have found that since starting the project I am only now starting to “really see” the amazing environment where I spend my time. The scope of what I look at has expanded dramatically. Then there is the story that only the camera can tell. Moments snapped from a moving mass reveal details beyond what we can perceive with our eye. Look at the detail in the face of a forming wave or the spray of a backlit lip. Truly beautiful. To you the viewer I would like nothing better than for you to have one of my images inyour personal space and that each time you look at it, it conjures up emotions in what ever form is appropriate for you.\" Tony Warrilow - www.tonywarrilow.com.au
