Sidewood Estate was established in 2004. It is owned by Owen and Cassandra Inglis who operate it as a winery and cidery. Situated in the Onkaparinga Valley, the vines weather the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills. Significant expenditure on regeneration of the vineyards was already well underway when Sidewood invested over $12 million in the expansion of the winery, increasing capacity from 500t to 2000t each vintage and implementing sustainable improvements including 100kW solar panels, water treatment works and insulation for the winery. The expansion includes new bottling and canning facilities capable of handling 6 million bottles of wine and cider annually. A multimillion-dollar restaurant, cellar door and cidery was opened in 2020. Wines are released under the Sidewood Estate, Stablemate and Mappinga labels. Exports to the UK, the US, Canada, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Thailand, Vanuatu, Singapore, Japan and China. -JAMES HALLIDAY

Sidewood Estate is nestled in the cool climate region of the Adelaide Hills a short drive east from Adelaide, South Australia’s capital city. Owners and Vignerons, Owen and Cassandra Inglis founded Sidewood in 2004 with a passion to create beautifully balanced and elegant award-winning wines of the highest quality. Sidewood’s portfolio now encompasses four individual vineyards in Oakbank, Echunga, Nairne and Verdun. The original 300 acre Oakbank vineyard is situated in the Onkaparinga Valley, 380m above sea level and is also home to Sidewood’s 40 thoroughbred race horses that fall under the name, Stable Hill Thoroughbreds. Climate, soil type, an unwavering focus on excellence in viticulture combined with hand-picking and fruit selection play a vital role to ensure that only the best fruit is grown and used for Sidewood Wines. The wines are made by internationally acclaimed Winemaker, Darryl Catlin at Sidewood’s state of the art winery at Nairne in the Adelaide Hills.

Set amongst a stunning mix of eucalyptus and landscaped gardens, the “Sidewood Restaurant & Cellar Door’ is only a 25 minute drive from the CBD. The luxury landmark’s vast jet black cladded exterior and 45 degree pitch gable roof line stands in contrast to warm, natural materials of the interior, including giant Victorian ash trusses, local stone flooring, and warm caramel leather banquettes. The venue also features an eclectic collection of Australian art, including works by Olsen, Blackman, Boissevain and Grey-Smith. Sidewood’s award-winning wines can be sampled in our tasting room or expertly paired with the Australasian menu offered in our restaurant by Chef Ali Seedsman. The interior flows outside onto an enormous hardwood deck which offers many different types of casual dining experiences. From lounges in front of an open two-way stone fireplace to bar stools along a fifteen metre bar overlooking our petanque and lawn bowls courts, the kids nature playground and of course our 6 VIP day beds (available for hire).
