Krinklewood Biodynamic Vineyard
Owner Oscar Martin and winemaker Valentina Moresco say: Sustainability isn't something we do at Krinklewood, it's the foundation of every decision we make. A question that constantly guides us is, "What shall we do with eternity?". It reminds us that we are simply custodians of this land, with a responsibility to leave it better than we found it. Established in 1981 and ACO Certified Organic and Biodynamic since 2007, Krinklewood is farmed in partnership with nature, nurturing healthy soils, encouraging biodiversity and eliminating synthetic chemicals. The estate also serves as a living showcase for Dimensions X, a carbon-negative prefab housing company, demonstrating that beautiful places can be created while putting the health of our planet first. To us, genuine sustainability is about creating a future where both people and nature can thrive.
H. How do these practices translate into the glass?
VM. Our sustainable and biodynamic approach starts in the soil and is reflected in the purity, balance and sense of place in our wines. By nurturing healthier soils and promoting biodiversity, we encourage resilient vines that can better express their natural environment. This allows us to work with fruit that has greater vitality, complexity and character, resulting in wines that are a true reflection of the vineyard. We believe minimal intervention in the winery allows these qualities to shine through in the glass.
H. Beyond your sustainability certification, are there any environmental initiatives, innovations or future goals you'd like to share?
OM. Our Organic and Biodynamic certification is just the beginning. Our mission is to create Australia’s leading destination for organic farm hospitality; a place where people can reconnect with nature, understand where their food and wine comes from, and experience a more sustainable way of living.
We are currently delivering a comprehensive masterplan for Krinklewood, designed by renowned architect Peter Stutchbury, transforming the estate into a living example of regenerative hospitality. The vision includes a wellness bathhouse, carbon-negative Dimensions X cabins, an expanded farm-to-plate restaurant supported by productive food gardens, orchards and citrus groves, and a performance stage celebrating food, wine, music and culture.
A key part of this future is education. We’re creating experiences such as a self-guided Biodynamic Walk, seasonal farm tours and harvest experiences that allow guests to learn about organic farming, biodynamic principles, regenerative viticulture and the connection between healthy soils, healthy food and a healthy planet. Our goal is for Krinklewood to inspire people to care more deeply for the earth and take those learnings into their own lives.
