- The Clare Valley has varying altitudes, soil types and the cooling shade of ancient gum trees on its side, allowing it to cultivate a range of varieties successfully. Of these, three have emerged heroes – cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and riesling. Riesling is synonymous with the region, but it would be remiss to disregard its outstanding red varieties – true to South Australian form, Clare Valley produces powerful red wines, with cool nights adding bright acidity to concentrated, flavourful fruit.

2015 Tim Adams Aberfeldy Shiraz
This flagship wine has aromas and flavours of cherry, plum and chocolate, accompanied by oak-derived characters of clove, nutmeg and vanilla. The Aberfeldy Shiraz is best enjoyed with red meat dishes and can be cellared for up to 20 years. -
2019 Pikes The Merle Riesling
The Merle Riesling shows aromas of kaffir lime, lemon and citrus blossom, with subtle slate and wet stone nuances. The palate brims with fresh, ripe lime, mouthwatering acidity and talc-like texture, followed by a phenomenal acid line and length. -
2018 Kirrihill EB’s The Squire Shiraz
This wine is plush and powerful with intense fruit flavours and aromas, balanced by pronounced and abundant tannins that add structure and length. The oak influence is notable; this shiraz is for lovers of highly concentrated, dense and heavy reds – enjoy with barbecued ribs. -
2016 Knappstein Enterprise Cabernet Sauvignon
This cabernet is fragrant on the nose with blueberries, violets and a hint of spice. The palate is bright and structured with blue fruit flavours. Fine-grained tannins spread evenly across a generous palate and carry flavours of red cherry and cassis though to a well-composed finish. Enjoy with a 12 hour slow-roasted Lamb.
