Top Rated: Sauvignon Blanc

By The Tasting Team

Last year’s winner of the sauvignon blanc category was from Margaret River (Flowstone), but the Adelaide Hills had the most top-scoring wines. This year Margaret River takes the honours from both angles. The top three wines at our Awards judging were from Margaret River, Margaret River and the Pyrenees, respectively. Wines (including the winner) with judicious wood ageing performed well in this category.

Barrel fermented in new and used French puncheons which contribute to both the flavour and texture of this very appealing wine. It's savoury and dry, but the lemon zest and fruit flavours are the prime movers in showing what can be done even in a vintage that wasn't easy. – James Halliday
