Graeme and Suzanne Lunney conceived the idea for Four Winds in 1997, planting the first vines in '98, moving to the property full-time in '99, and making the first vintage in 2000. Daughter Sarah looks after promotions, and youngest daughter Jaime, complete with a degree in forensic biology, has joined husband Bill in the winery. She brings with her several years' experience with the former Kamberra winery, and three vintages in the Napa Valley.
We love the simple things; making great wine and wood-fired pizzas. What started out as one couple’s dream to grow and sell grapes has turned into an inter-generational family business. Four Winds Vineyard now grows grapes, makes wine and has built a cellar door so that each weekend you can come and enjoy our wines with wood-fired pizzas. We have aimed to create a cellar door that you will find fun and welcoming. Material that was lying around the vineyard we have re-purposed to use in the building. You will see our wooden picking bins cladding the building and our wine barrels in our light fittings and tables. The ‘Four Winds’ Story The property’s name ‘Four Winds’ has a long history which began with a miner and his wife living on the property in a slab-hut. Her name was Scheherazade, after the story teller in The Arabian Nights. One of the stories from The One Thousand and One Nights describes a magic carpet being borne by the four winds of good fortune. She named this small farm in Murrumbateman ‘Four Winds’ in the hope it would carry their good fortunes. We hope that the four winds carry your good fortunes! Just 30 minutes from Canberra, we look forward to welcoming you to Four Winds Vineyard.
