Grove Estate Vineyard was re-established in 1989 by Brian and Suellen Mullany on the site where grapes were first planted in Lambing Flat (Young) in 1861 by Croation settlers who brought vine cuttings with them from Dalmatia. One of the original pickers' huts has been refurbished as the cellar door. Further plantings in '98 were made on their Bit O' Heaven Vineyard, the two sites with vastly different soils. The wines are made at Clonakilla by Tim Kirk and Bryan Martin. Exports to China.
Brian and Suellen Mullany and their partners purchased the Grove Estate Vineyard in 1989 with the aim of producing premium cool climate wine grapes, on its volcanic red soils situated at 550m above sea level. The Grove Estate property already had a long history of involvement with the wine and grape growing industry in the Hilltops Region as vines were originally planted on the property back in 1886. Around the same time in 1870 Brian's Great Great Grandfather had just arrived from Switzerland and began planting vines in the Yarra Valley for Charles Joseph Latrobe. Since 1989, over 100 hectares of vines have been planted across two distinctly different vineyards. The varieties cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, merlot, primitivo, barbera, sangiovese, chardonnay, semillon & nebbiolo.
