De Bortoli extended its wine empire in 2002 with the purchase of the former Wilderness Estate, giving it an immediate and significant presence in the Hunter Valley courtesy of the 26ha of established vineyards, including semillon vines over 40 years old. The subsequent purchase of the adjoining 40ha property increased the size of the business. The intention is to convert the vineyards to biological farming practices, with composting and mulching already used to reduce the need for irrigation. Exports to all major markets.
De Bortoli made its foray into the Hunter to make the distinctive Semillon and Shiraz styles for which the region is famous, wines with character, personality and longevity. De Bortoli has 36 hectares under vine in the Hunter Valley including a mature vineyard with Semillon vines over 40 years old.
