The definitive guide to Australian Wines
Eagles Rest has flown under the radar since its establishment in 2007, and still does. The estate is planted to 11ha of chardonnay, 10ha shiraz, 6ha semillon and 2ha verdelho.

The Hunter’s best kept secret… nestled high in valleys of the Brokenback Range in Pokolbin, Hunter Valley.Eagles Rest is gold medal winning boutique wine & olive oil producer specialising in premium Semillon (3ha), Chardonnay (8ha), Shiraz (7ha), Cabernet Sauvignon, Verdelho (2ha), Muscat & Olive Oil with less than 5000 cases produced annually with our first vintage produced in 2007.Inspired by our resident Wedge Tail Eagles, Eagles Rest looks beyond the present and looks towards the future, producing wines made from handpicked low yield grapes with exceptional maturing ability. Experience Eagles Rest’s multi award winning aged Hunter Valley Wines, displaying providence, elegance and presence at our cellar door in Pokolbin along with our Estate grown and pressed extra virgin olive oil & exclusive vineyard tours. The Eagles Rest Vineyard like many other Hunter Valley Vineyards is most likely one of the earliest planted in Australia dating back to the 1800s. It was planted by the Grand Father of Audrey Wilkinson, Frederick. The original name was "Maluna"! Unfortunately the 1930's struck the Hunter winemaking community with a vengeance and Maluna passed to the hands of the Phillips family and a new life of grazing country. Not until Don Maxwell, a Sydney doctor, originally of Maitland stock, bought the property in 1968 did Maluna return to its former glory under vine named "Maxwells Vineyard".The vineyard blocks are unique in that some lay in their own small valley, have an outstanding diversity of soils along with fantastic moisture availability. The soils, aspect and hydraulic dynamics of this place truly set it apart from its surrounds. According to many old timers, Eagles Rest laying in its valleys and gorges that run from the Brokenback ridge, is one of the last sites in the Hunter Valley to ever suffer a drought. Our vision has given the opportunity for the vineyard to express its colours, aromas and flavours like never before. In the past, grapes were grown to be sold, meaning higher tonnage was the aim, compromising the quality of the grapes. Our immediate goal was to produce the highest quality fruit possible by pruning for low yield effectively lowering the crop quantity, removing excessive fruit growth along with many other techniques. Eagles Rest Wines are now the byproduct of these high quality/low yield grapes. The fruit from the Eagles Rest vineyard has always been highly regarded amongst Pokolbin’s winemakers for its quality. Many great award winning and famous wines have the fruit from Eagles Rest Vineyard in their DNA and none more than our very own.The wines from Eagles Rest display finesse and elegance. They show a positive acid structure which gives the wines brightness and liveliness. The fruit characters are always well defined and distinctive. All wines are made from carefully selected low yield grapes with age ability in mind, and most importantly quality not quantity. The Cellar DoorOur Cellar Door is located at our Echo Ridge picturesque Vineyard nestled between the scenic fields and striking ranges of the Hunter Valley.
